Scale & Proportion

Neptune rises from still water beneath an open sky — and the size you choose decides whether the room looks onto that axis or sits within it.

The frame is cinematic, nearly twice as wide as it is tall, with its energy gathered low and central: the fountain rising, two black swans on the water, mirrored hedges receding toward the distant château. Symmetry asks to sit centered and level — with the lower edge 8–12 inches above a console or low sideboard, the composition reads from seated and standing positions alike. Width governs everything here, and the long axis needs clearance on either side before it can hold a wall. Smaller sizes bring focus to the lead figures and the still texture of the water. Chosen large, the work becomes the luminous horizontal the room arranges itself around.

  • Lateral Clearance — 12–18 in (30–46 cm) per side for small works; 18–30+ in (46–76+ cm) for large
  • Hang Height — lower edge 8–12 in (20–30 cm) above the furniture, read from seated and standing
  • Artwork Width — 70–85% of the console or sofa width beneath it
  • Viewing Distance — 5–8 ft (1.5–2.4 m) close; 8–14 ft (2.4–4.3 m) for the full sweep
