Scale & Proportion

Persephone lifts the fig as Chronos opens his wings behind her — and the size you choose decides whether the room observes that exchange or stands inside it.

The weight gathers at the center: the seated figure with the fruit at her lips, wings opening to either side, the great bird holding the right edge, serpents running low across the foreground. Width governs firmly at nearly twice as wide as tall, and the wingspan needs real lateral clearance before it can open. Center the frame rather than the figure — the composition carries its weight at the axis without being mirrored, and forcing Persephone to the midpoint throws the whole span off balance. Let the furniture set the hang, not the wall; chased upward toward a cornice, the exchange lifts clear of the sightline it was built for. Smaller sizes hold the individual seeds, the iridescence of feathers, the texture of Chronos's skin. Chosen large, the work becomes the deep horizontal the room arranges itself around.

  • Lateral Clearance — 12–18 in (30–46 cm) per side for small works; 18–30+ in (46–76+ cm) for large
  • Hang Height — lower edge 8–12 in (20–30 cm) above the furniture, read from seated and standing
  • Artwork Width — 70–85% of the console or sofa width beneath it
  • Viewing Distance — 5–8 ft (1.5–2.4 m) for detail; 10–16 ft (3.0–4.9 m) for the full composition
