Scale & Proportion

Apollo breaks the water in one long horizontal sweep — and the size you choose decides whether the room contains the procession or moves with it.

The composition reads outward from the chariot: horses, figures, the fountain edge, trees, sky, and the light returning off the water. Its central action sits in the lower-middle band, which makes hang height unusually consequential — with the lower edge 8–12 inches above the sofa, the work resolves from seated and standing positions alike. A smaller format brings intimacy and precision to the sculptural detail. Chosen large, the panorama becomes architectural, less an object on the wall than the element the room arranges itself around.

  • Lateral Clearance — 12–18 in (30–46 cm) per side for small works; 18–30+ in (46–76+ cm) for large
  • Hang Height — lower edge 8–12 in (20–30 cm) above the furniture, read from seated and standing
  • Artwork Width — 70–85% of the sofa or console width beneath it
  • Viewing Distance — 5–8 ft (1.5–2.4 m) close; 8–14 ft (2.4–4.3 m) for the full procession
